In my last blog we discussed discipleship as being the process of salvation - the work that takes place in the middle between our decision to place our faith in the One True Savior, Yahushua ha’Mashiah, and the fulfillment of His promised return and restoration, the salvation of our souls. Receiving the end (goal) of your belief, even the salvation of your souls. 1 Kepha/Peter 1:9 In essence, salvation doesn’t reach its goal without the middle part - discipleship. Not because the seed (the free gift of salvation) isn’t complete in itself, but because the seed without being planted in good soil and tended to with daily work, will not produce any fruit. It will be unproductive and ineffective. That is the conclusion drawn by Shimon Kepha (Simon Peter) in his understanding of the Way of salvation as an incremental growing process, seen here in the introduction to his 2nd letter: Shimon Kepha, a servant and emissary of Yahushua ha’Mashiah, to those who have obtained a belief as precious as ours by the righteousness of our Elohim and of our Savior Yahushua ha’Mahsiah: Favour and peace by increased to you in the knowledge of YHWH and of Yahushua our Adon, as His Mighty-like power has given to us all we need for hai (life) and reverence, through the knowledge of Him who called us to esteem and uprightness. Through these there have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, so that through these you might be partakers of the Mighty-like nature, having escaped from the corruption in the world, caused by lust. And for this reason do your utmost to add to your belief uprightness, to uprightness knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control endurance, to endurance reverence, to reverence brotherly affection, and to brotherly affection love. For if these are in you and increase, they cause you to be neither ineffective nor without fruit in the knowledge of our Adon Yahushua ha’Mahiah. For he in whom these are not present is blind, being shortsighted, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his old sins. For this reason, brothers, all the more do your utmost to make firm your calling and choosing, for if you are doing these you shall never stumble at all, for in this way an entrance into the everlasting reign of our Adon and Saviour Yahushua ha’Mashiah shall be richly supplied to you. 2 Kepha (Peter) 1:1-9 What is this “Way”? When we mention the term “the Way”, many believers will think of Yahushua’s own words about Himself found in the account of another of His beloved disciples, John: ...I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Hai (Life). No one comes to the Father except through Me. Yohannan (John) 14:6 Here Yahushua clearly states that HE is the Way, and that this Way is not only the Way to the Father but is the ONLY Way to the Father. So what does He mean when saying He is “the Way”? Is He referring to something known by His disciples? Or is this a “new” Way and a “new” Truth leading to the Father? And if He is the Life, then does it follow that without Him (the Way and the the Truth) there is only death? Is there anything else in Scripture that is referred to as “the Way” or “the Truth” or “the Life”? And if so, is it possible that Yahushua is connecting Himself with it, saying that He is the embodiment and example of how to walk this Way, Truth, and Life that leads to the Father? Or is He somehow cancelling an “old” way to the Father, and proclaiming something totally new? If you’re like me, you want answers to these questions! Then like His disciples of old, may we together proclaim: “Where else would we go! YOU ALONE have the words of eternal Life!” Yohannan (John) 6:68 Yahushua explained salvation to those who were asking the same questions by turning to the Scriptures: And beginning at Mosheh and all the Nebi’im (Prophets), He was explaining to them in all the Scripture that concerning Himself. Luke 24:27 The Beginning The study principle of “first mention” means to go back to the time a term, concept, or word is first mentioned in Scripture, as this is when it is defined and established. This is a very important tool, because once something has been mentioned, there is an assumed and expected understanding that goes along with it each time it is subsequently used. Let us look at the first mention of the term “the Way” found in Genesis with some of the original Hebrew words restored and defined so that we can establish a clear foundation: and He drove the man out. And He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way (haphak - to turn, overturn, whirling), to guard (shamar - to keep, watch, preserve) the way (derek - way, road, distance, journey, manner. A noun from the word “darak” - to tread, march, can also be about archery, to bend the bow, the bent) to the tree of hai. Beresheth (Genesis) 3:24 The Hebrew word “derek”, translated as “the way”, is the word we will see used again and again throughout Scripture to describe the path we are to walk that brings us BACK TO the tree of hai (Life) and restores us to the Father. THIS is THE Way that Yahushua was referring to when He called Himself “the Way, and the Truth, and the Life”. It is the ONLY WAY back to the tree of Life, the only way to the Father. Wouldn’t you love to go on a tour to Israel and have your tour guide say, “Today we’re going to the Garden of Eden! I’m going to show you where Adam and Eve were living and we will visit the Tree of Life!” I would be SO excited! I might even yell out from the crowd of tourists, “You know the Way???!!!” I imagine Him looking at me, smiling with love and saying, “I AM the Way.” Yahushua is our Tour Guide. He came to this earth to SHOW US the Way, and He IS the Way! “The Way” is the Truth, and it is the Life, the only way to the Father. How exciting! This is exactly what He will do when He returns. He will take us back to the Tree of Life. How do I know? Because I found the last mention of this “Way” in the book of Revelation. Last Mention The direct connection to Genesis 3:24 is so apparent in these verses in Revelation, yet if we aren’t founded in the Word (the Torah) we could miss it. Baruk (Blessed) are those doing His Commands, so that the authority shall be theirs UNTO the tree of hai (life), and to enter through the gates into the city. Revelation 22:14 And just before this, talking about the qodesh (set-apart, holy) new Yerushalyim: And there shall by no means enter into it whatever is unclean, neither anyone doing abomination and falsehood, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Hai (Life). Revelation 21:27 So according to Revelation, the only ones written in the Lamb’s Book of Hai are those who are not unclean, who do no abomination or falsehood. Only those doing His Commands will have the authority to go to the Tree of Life. This is the Way (derek) back to that Tree, the one that was guarded (shamar - kept, watched, and preserved) by the flaming sword. The word “shamar” is the same word used when YHWH tells His people to GUARD (shamar) the Commands. Can you see from cross referencing Scripture, how these are clearly connected? The Way to the tree of Life is the Commands. Yahushua said, “I am the Way (“hodos” in greek - road, journey, path) and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Will the Real Way Please Stand Up? So are the Commands the Way to the tree of Life or is Yahushua?? YES! It’s not either/or. It’s yes and amein! Yahushua IS the Word in the flesh. The Word IS the Commands. They are one and the same in different format - spoken (His Voice), written (the Torah), and Living (Yahushua - the Word made flesh). We will see from the below Scriptures that “His Way” and “The Word of YHWH” are one and the same. They are both perfect and proven, and are both a shield to protect all those who come under them. So when we say “we are not under the Law”, that is NOT a good thing! To be under the covering of the Law is perfect, proven, and a shield to us. Actually, the false doctrine that we are “not under the law” is a cunning strategy of the adversary. For when those who don’t keep Torah explain “we’re not under the Law”, they do speak the truth. But their implication is twisted. They may be thinking, “I’m free from something oppressive and too hard, a curse.” But that is the farthest thing from what Scripture says! Scripture says, in many places, that the Law, the Torah - His Commands, Statutes, Right-Rulings, Judgements - are good, perfect, proven, everlasting, a blessing, a shield, and LIFE. Why would we NOT want to be “under” such a beautiful covering and protection? We have been duped by this false doctrine that we are no longer “under” the Law. Let’s let the Word speak for Himself: The El - His Way is perfect; The Word of YHWH is proven; He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. Shemu’el 2 (2 Samuel) 22:31 Though YHWH gave you bread of adversity and water of affliction, your Teacher shall no longer be hidden. But your eyes shall see your Teacher, and your ears hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the Way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right, or whenever you turn to the left. Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 30:20-21 And you shall guard to do as YHWH your Elohim has commanded you - do not turn aside, to the right or to the left. Walk in all THE WAY which YHWH your Elohim has commanded you, so that you live and it be well with you. And you shall prolong your days in the land which you possess. Debarim (Deuteronomy) 5: 32-33 See, I am putting before you today a berakah (blessing) and a curse: the berakah, when you obey the Commands of YHWH your Elohim which I command you today; and the curse, if you do not obey the Commands of YHWH your Elohim, but turn aside from the Way which I command you today, to go after other mighty ones which you have not known. Debarim (Deuteronomy) 11:26-28 A True Prophet I know many well-meaning Christians who listen to modern day prophets and I’ve heard them say that they know these men and women are true prophets because the things they say have come to pass. They get this belief from Deuteronomy 18:21-22. In those verses it clearly says that if what the prophet speaks in the Name of YHWH does not come to pass that that “prophet” has spoken presumptuously and he or she is not to be revered. So the doctrine of believing a prophet is a true prophet if what he/she speaks does come to pass is only assumed from those verses, not implicitly or explicitly stated. The verses below that speak about discerning a true prophet when what they speak does come to pass contain a caveat to that identifier which has to do with judging the words of the so-called prophet by how closely they hold to the Way or if they turn and go the way of the world. When there arises among you a nabi (prophet) or a dreamer of dreams, and he shall give you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder shall come true, of which he has spoken to you, saying, ‘Let us go after other mighty ones - which you have not known - and serve them,’ do not listen to the words of that nabi or that dreamer of dreams, for YHWH your Elohim is trying you to know whether you love YHWH your Elohim with all your heart and with all your being. Walk after YHWH your Elohim and serve Him, and guard His Commands and obey His voice, and serve Him and cling to Him. And that nabi or that dreamer of dreams is put to death, because he has spoken apostasy against YHWH your Elohim - who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim and redeemed you from the house of bondage - to make you stray from the Way in which YHWH your Elohim commanded you to walk. Thus you shall purge the evil from your midst. Debarim (Deuteronomy) 13:1-5 The determining factor of a true prophet is clearly that he or she must teach in accordance with the Way of Elohim and not the way of the “gods” of this world. It doesn’t matter if his words or dreams are compelling, uplifting, miraculous or even come true. If they are in line with the “gods” of this age and not on the straight and narrow path of the Way of YHWH, they are not to be heeded. You might think, no man or woman I have listened to has ever told me to serve any other elohim but YHWH! However, I challenge you to examine that in light of Scripture. If they are promoting any practice or doctrine that is contrary to what is taught in Scripture to be the Way, then they are promoting another gospel and another Messiah. There is only one Messiah - Yahushua ha’Mashiah. He lived Torah and taught Torah in accordance with how the Father prescribes it to be lived. He stripped away the leaven of the Pharisees and while He loved and reached out to all men and women of every walk of life, He called them to follow Him and did not incorporate their ways with the Way. Just like Abram was told to come out from among his pagan family and to be separate, so we too are to come out from among the current mixture of pagan Christianity and from the tainted way of Judaism. We are to listen to Yahushua, who leads us to the Father, and back onto the Way of the Father. Therefore, “Come out from among them and be separate, says YHWH, and do not touch what is unclean, and I shall receive you. And I shall be a Father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to Me, says YHWH El Shaddai” Qorin’tiyim 2 (2 Corinthians) 6:17-18 What “Law”?? Just the other day, Joel's brother made the comment that the only “Law” we are under is the Law of Love. My husband asked him how we know what love is, and how is it evidenced or demonstrated? The implication of our brother’s statement was that love is somehow the opposite of “the Law”, yet Scripture clearly connects love with the Commands. When you guard all this Command to do it, which I am commanding you today, to love YHWH your Elohim and to walk in His Ways all the days… Debarim (Deuteronomy) 19:9 According to Scripture, love and obeying the Commandments are intrinsically linked. The opposite of love is therefore the opposite of obeying the Commands which is not obeying the Commands. This connection is made clear in the “New Testament” as well. And by this we know that we know Him, if we guard His Commands. The one who says, “I know Him,” and does not guard His Commands, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever guards His Word, truly the love of Elohim has been perfected in him, By this we know that we are in HIm. Yohannan 1 (1 John) 2:3-5 To Sin or Not To Sin? Everyone doing sin also does lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. Yohannan 1 (1 John) 3:4 According to the apostle John, the very definition of sin is breaking or not obeying the Law. If we take his own definition and insert it in the next few verses he writes in this letter, we see a very clear picture of what loving YHWH really looks like. And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins (disobedience to the Law), and in Him there is no sin (disobedience to the Law.) Everyone staying in Him does not sin (disobey the Law.) Everyone sinning (disobeying the Law) has neither seen Him nor known Him. Little children, let no one lead you astray . The one doing righteousness (obeying the Law) is righteous (obedient to the Law), even as He is righteous (obedient to the Law.) The one doing sin (disobeying the Law) is of the devil, because the devil has sinned (disobeyed the Law) from the beginning. For this purpose the Ben (Son) of YHWH was manifested: to destroy the works of the devil (disobedience to the Law). Everyone having been born of Elohim does not sin (disobey the Law), because His seed stays in him, and he is powerless to sin (disobey the Law), because he has been born of Elohim. In this the children of Elohim and the children of the devil are manifest: Everyone not doing righteousness (obeying the Law) is not of Elohim, neither the one not loving this brother. Yohannan 1 (1 John) 3:5-10 Let His Word Speak Are we certain that “The Way” is following the Commands of YHWH? Is it His Torah? Was it changed by Yahushua? Isn’t it too hard, impossible? Weren’t we “set free” from it? How about we let the Word of YHWH speak for itself: They have turned aside quickly out of the Way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a moulded calf… Shemoth (Exodus) 32:8 This statement is made my YHWH concerning the Israelites just 40 days after He had given the Commandments to them through Moshe and they had agreed (Exodus 19) to do all that He commanded them. Baruk (blessed) are the perfect in the Way, who walk in the Torah of YHWH. Baruk are those who observe His Witnesses, who seek Him with all their heart. Even they shall do no unrighteousness; they shall walk in His Ways. Tehillim (Psalms) 119:1-3 His Witnesses are the 2 tablets with the 10 Words written on them by His own hand. (Exodus 25:16 & 21) Those who observe these 10 Words, or Commands, are called the ones who seek Him with all their heart. The entirely of Psalm 119 contains David’s declarations of His love for and delight in the Torah, the Way of Elohim. Reading that Psalm alone will convince one that the Torah is good, everlasting, a delight and treasure. All Scripture is breathed by Elohim and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for straightening, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of Elohim might be fitted, equipped for every good work. Timotiyos 2 (2 Timothy) 3:16 & 17 What “Scripture” is Paul referring to here in his letter to Timothy? The only Scripture at that time was the Torah, the Prophets, and the Writings - what we have often called the “Old Testament.” It was these Scriptures that Yahushua Himself used to share the Good News with the 2 men on the road to Emmaus as well as to instruct His disciples. And Beginning at Mosheh (the Torah) and all the Nebi’im (Prophets), He was explaining to them in all the Scriptures that concerning Himself. Luqas (Luke) 24:27 And He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all have to be filled that were written in the Torah of Mosheh and the Nebi’im (Prophets) and the Tehillim (Psalms or Writings) concerning Me.” Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. Lucas (Luke) 24:44-45 It often surprises me that many in Christianity struggle to see what Yahushua Himself confirms: Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Torah and the Nebi’im. Enter in through the narrow gate! Because the gate is wide - and the way is broad - that leads to destruction and there are many who enter in through it. Because the gate is narrow and the WAY is hard pressed which leads to hai (life), and there are few who find it. Mattithyahu (Matthew) 7:14 Here are some amazing excerpts from Psalm 25 (I encourage you to read the whole thing!): Show me Your Ways, O YHWH; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth…For You are the Elohim of my deliverance (salvation)…Good and straight is YHWH; Therefore He teaches sinners in the Way…the meek ones His Way…All the paths of YHWH are kindness and truth, to those who guard His Covenant and His Witnesses…Who, then is the man that reveres YHWH? He teaches him in the Way he should choose…The secret of YHWH is with those who revere Him, and He makes His Covenant known to them… David’s words are enough to convince me that a man, or woman, after YAH’s own heart is one who loves and guards His Commands, His Way! Essential Difference Let us make one final clarification, one that has caused much confusion and arguing amongst those seeking YHWH, and one that will hopefully serve to dismiss this confusion. THE WAY, spoken of by Yahushua and clearly set forth by the Father from the beginning, is not Judaism, nor is it Christianity for that matter. Neither of those “ways” keeps to The Way as defined by Scripture. We have seen from the Scriptures that love and keeping the Commandments are intertwined, and thus the Christian doctrine that the “Law” or the keeping of the Commandments has been done away with makes zero logical, doctrinal, or scriptural sense. Therefore, the religion of Christianity is not keeping to The Way. Many Christians, when confronted with this evidence, retort with some comment about Judaism or Judaizing, assuming that one who obeys the Commandments and teaches others to do the same must be a “Jew”, implying that they follow the religion Judaism. Let’s let Scripture straighten this misconception out for us. But Sha’ul (Paul), still breathing threats and murder against the talmidim of the Adon (the disciples of Yahushua), having come to the kohen ha’gadol (the high priest), asked from him letters to the congregations of Dammaseq, so that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, to bring them bound to Yerushalayim. Ma’aseh (Acts) 9:1-2 It is easy to deduce from the above verses that the Pharisaic sect, which developed into what we today call Judaism, was not “the Way” or else Paul, who was of this sect, would not have been persecuting this group of believers. These early believers that Paul was seeking to arrest were keeping 7th day shabbat (sabbath), guarding the Moedim (the Appointed Times/Feasts), and teaching the Gospel message of Yahushua from the perspective of the Torah. (See the book of Acts and the 4 Gospels) Clearly Pharisaic Judaism and The Way are not the same thing. The religion of modern Christianity cannot be “the Way” either because it clearly holds to teachings and practices that directly violate the instructions we’ve seen in all of what its followers call the “Old Testament”. Those Scriptures, validated by “New Testament” writers as well as Yahushua as has been shown in the above mentioned Scriptures, connect “the Way” to the Torah, the right-rulings, the judgements, and the statutes of YHWH. The religion of Christianity has also brought the Name of YHWH to naught by reducing it to the titles “Lord” and “God” and have changed the Name given to Our Savior by the Father Himself from Yahushua to “Jesus”, honoring a false elohim (son of Zeus) each time that name is spoken. Like Jeroboam of old (1 Kings 12) Christianity has also changed the times and moedim (Appointed Times/Feasts) set out plainly in Scripture and instead adopted and hold fast to the celebration of pagan holidays that exalt false deities and line up with sun-god worship to the “T”. (Many books have been written on this topic. Research this topic thoroughly and you will see for yourself!) [For a list of some books on this topic click here.] Let me jump in here and state what I’m NOT saying. I’m NOT saying that all Christians or all “Jews” are lost. Those who are seeking Him are truly ON The Way and, I believe, are being led to the fulness of Truth in His timing. I too, was “on the way” during my Christian walk and that way led me to a crossroads where I had to discern The Way - the straight and narrow - and not veer to the right or to the left. The Way is not somewhere in between Christianity and Judaism, for it precedes them both! Both of those religions are different paths leading off of the straight and narrow Way which Yahushua lived and led His disciples back to. He came to be the Way, the Truth, and the Life to all who would listen and obey. He was persecuted by the Pharisees because He rightly accused them of adding to “the Way” by inserting doctrines of man and making His perfect Torah out to be something unattainable and burdensome to His sheep. The modern Christian religion did exactly the same thing by taking from and adding to “the Way” and thus its adherents will be reprimanded by Yahushua at His return much the same way He reprimanded the Pharisees during His first coming. Let’s listen to Yahushua’s own words. Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Torah and the Nebi’im. Enter in through the narrow gate! Because the gate is wide - and the way is broad - that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter in through it. Because the gate is narrow and the way is hard pressed which leads to hai (life), and there are few who find it. But beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are savage wolves. By their fruits you shall know them……Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So then, by their fruits you shall know them - Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Adonai, Adonai’ (Lord, Lord) shall enter into the reign of the shamayim (heavens), but he who is doing the desire of My Father in the shamayim. Many shall say to Me int that day, ‘Adonai, Adonai, have we not nabu (prophesied) in Your Name, and cast out demons in Your Name, and done many mighty works in Your Name?’ And then I shall declare to them, ‘I never knew you, depart from Me, you who work lawlessness (Torahlessness)!’ Mattithyahu (Matthew) 7:12-23 The Same Way David referred to his enemies in this same way in Psalm 6:8 where he says, “Depart from me, all you workers of wickedness…” We know from reading Psalm 119 that David was a lover of the Torah and referred to it as righteousness. The words of Solomon found in Proverbs 10:29 directly contrast the Way of YHWH with wickedness: The Way of YHWH is a stronghold for the perfect, but ruin to the workers of of wickedness. And similarly in Proverbs 11:20: “The perverse of heart are an abomination to YHWH, but the perfect in the Way are His delight.” Ya’aqob, the brother of Yahushua, contrasts The Way of Elohim with a man’s own way: My brethren, if any of you will stray from the way of truth, and a man restore him from his error, Let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way gives life to his soul from death and blots out the multitude of his sins. Ya’aqob (James) 5:19-20 Notice THE way and his way. We want to be found walking in THE Way of YHWH, not our own way, or path, which is a path that leads to destruction. The Way of YWHW leads to Life! What About Paul? Let’s take a quick look at Hebrews 3 to allow Paul to weigh in on these matters: (vs.10) Because of this (referring to the rebellion in the wilderness against His Commands - see vs.8), I was weary with that generation and I said, ‘That is a people which deceives their heart, and they have not KNOWN MY WAYS.’ And I swore in my anger, ‘They shall NOT enter my rest.’ Verse 8 tells us that the “rebellious” hardened their heart in the wilderness. What did they do? If you read Exodus, they SAID they would follow all He had told them to DO, but they did not DO it. What is the remedy? Let’s look at verses 12-13: Beware therefore, my brethren, lest there be an evil, unfaithful heart in any of you, and you depart from THE LIVING GOD; But inquire of yourselves every day, until the day that is called today, lest anyone of you should be hardened by the deception of sin. So an evil, unfaithful heart will depart from the Way of the Living Elohim. And if we inquire of, or search ourselves daily, that will guard against us becoming hardened by the deception of sin. We know what sin is according to 1 John 3:4&5. Sin is lawlessness (breaking Torah) which is exactly what the children of Israel did in the wilderness. Finally, let’s take a look at verse 19 to connect these dots and understand that belief and obedience are the same thing: And we see that they COULD NOT ENTER, because THEY DID NOT BELIEVE. A + B = C Judges chapter 2 describes how the children of Yisrael were disobedient to the Covenant and thus would be driven from the Land. It is perfectly clear from these verses that The Way equals keeping the Commandments: (vs 17)…They soon turned aside from the Way in which their fathers walked, in obeying the Commands of YHWH - they did not do so. (vs. 20-22) And the displeasure of YHWH burned against Yisra’el, and He said, “Because this nation has transgressed My Covenant that I commanded their fathers, and has not obeyed My voice, I also shall no longer drive out before them any of the nations which Yahoshua left when he died, in order to try Yisra’el by them, whether they would guard the Way of YHWH, to walk in them as their fathers guarded them, or not.” The connection continued even after the Nation began to have kings reign over them: In the days of the kings, YHWH appeared to Solomon in a dream and said: And IF you walk in MY WAYS, to guard My Laws and My Commands, as your father David walked, then I shall prolong your days. Melakim 1 (1 Kings) 3:14 YHWH refers to “My Ways” and describes them as “to guard My Laws and My Commands”. The Ways (Hebrew word “derek”) of YHWH are to guard His Laws and His Commands, just like David did. Be Like the Cows There is a very interesting story found in 1 Samuel chapters 5 and 6. The Ark of the Covenant (containing the 2 Witnesses - the Tablets with the 10 Words) had been captured by the Pelishtites (Philistines) and they were experiencing the heavy hand of Elohim because of it. In fact, YHWH was bringing such destruction and deadly disease upon them that they began to pass it off from city to city. Finally, they sought their diviners as to what to do with this Ark and how to return it to the Israelites. They devised a strategy to test whether all their hardships truly had been at the hand of YHWH or whether they were simple victims of chance. They put the Ark, along with a very interesting and costly offering, on a cart yoked to two milk cows who had never pulled a wagon and had just been separated from their nursing calves and sent it away. They said: …if it goes up the way to its own border, to Beyth Shemesh, then He has done us this great evil. But if not, then we shall know that His hand has not come against us - an accident it was to us Shemu’el 1 (1 Samuel 6:9-10) Here’s what happened: And the cows went straight for the way to Beyth Shemesh, and went along the highway, bellowing as they went, and did not turn aside, right or left. Shemu’el 1 (1 Samuel) 6:12 Shemu’el was like these cows - he did not stray to the right or to the left. And he instructed the children of YHWH to do the same. If you revere YHWH, and shall serve Him and obey His voice, and not rebel against the Command of YHWH, then both you and the sovereign who reigns over you shall follow YHWH your Elohim. But if you do not obey the voice of YHWH, and shall rebel against the Command of YHWH, then the hand of YHWH shall be against you, as it was against your fathers. …And Shemu’el said to the people, “Do not fear. You have done all this evil. Only, do not turn aside from following YHWH. And you shall serve YHWH with all your heart, and do not turn aside after worthlessness which does not profit or deliver, for they are worthless. …but I shall teach you the good and straight Way. Only revere YHWH, and you shall serve Him in truth with all your heart, for consider what marvels He has done for you.” Shemu’el 1 (1 Samuel) 12:14-15, 20-21, 23-24 Jeremiah prophesies about the time when YHWH’s people shall once again be gathered: See, I am bringing them from the land of the north, and shall gather them from the ends of the earth, among them the blind and the lame, those with child and those in labour, together - a great assembly returning here. With weeping they shall come, and with prayers I bring them, I shall make them walk by rivers of waters, IN A STRAIGHT WAY IN WHICH THEY DO NOT STUMBLE. For I shall be a Father to Israel, and Ephraim - he is My firstborn. Yiremeyahu (Jeremiah) 31:8-9 Oh that we may be found in the straight Way! Do not turn to the right or the left; Turn your foot away from evil. Mishley (Proverbs) 4:27 We Are Called to Follow Yahushua did not call His disciples to any religion. He called them, and calls us, to follow Him. He kept the Commandments of YHWH perfectly. Of that there is no argument. We are to be like Him, walk like Him, and follow His Ways. He is The Way, The Truth, and The Life. No one comes to the Father, which seems to be the “goal” of most religions, except through Him. He was the Word at the beginning. He lived the Word His whole life. He will return to gather those who have done the same and who follow Him to the Father. Let’s end this blog, and continue on our journey, with a walk through Yahushua’s last words with His disciples, beginning in John chapter 14: Vs.15 - If you love Me, you shall guard My Commands. Vs.21 He who possesses My Commands and guards them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me shall be loved by My Father, and I shall love and manifest Myself to him. Vs.23-26 Yahushua answered him, “If anyone loves Me, he shall guard my Word. And My Father shall love him, and We shall come to him and make Our stay with him. He who does not love Me does not guard My Words. And the Word which you hear is not Mine but of the Father who sent Me. These I have spoken to you while still with you. But the Helper, the Ruah ha’Qodesh, whom the Father shall send in My Name, He shall teach you all, and remind you of all that I said to you.” Chapter 15 Vs.10 If you guard My Commands, you shall stay in My love, even as I have guarded My Father’s Commands and stay in HIs love. Vs.12 This is My Command, that you love one another, as I have loved you. Vs.14 You are My friends if you do whatever I Command you. Vs.15…all which I heard from My Father I have made known to you. Chapter 16 Vs.8 And having come, He (the Ruach) shall reprove the world concerning sin (lawlessness), and concerning righteousness (keeping law), and concerning judgment (by the Truth - the Law). Chapter 17 Vs.3 And this is everlasting hai (life), that they should know You, the only true Elohim, and Yahushua Mashiah, whom You have sent. Vs. 6 I have revealed Your Name to the men whom You gave Me out of the world. They were Yours, and You gave them to Me, and they have guarded Your Word. Vs.8 Because the Words which You gave to Me, I have given to them. And they have received them, and have truly known that I came forth from You,and they believed that You sent Me. Vs. 11 And I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Qodesh Father, guard them in Your Name which You have given Me, so that they might be one, as We are. Vs. 14 I have given them Your Word, and the world hated them because they are not of the world, as I am not of the world. Vs. 17 Qadosh them (set them apart) in Your truth - Your Word is truth. Your Word is Truth. ————————————————————————————————-- “Derek” for “The Way” - several cross-referencing/related Scriptures:
